What this tool does

This tool maps out a realistic route into psychology work in the UK for people who trained somewhere else. It tells you whether the job you want is a protected title that needs registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, how the British Psychological Society can assess an overseas degree, which roles you could apply for straight away, and what to think about on the visa side.

It is careers guidance, not an official decision. Only the HCPC can decide whether your training meets its standards.

When to use it

It is for psychologists and psychology graduates who qualified in another country and now live in the UK or want to move here. That includes licensed clinicians from the United States or Australia, master's graduates from Europe, and international students finishing a UK degree on a graduate visa who want to stay in the field.

It is also useful if you have been applying for jobs without success and want to understand which roles fit your qualification while registration is in progress, such as assistant psychologist or research posts.

How it works

You tell us where you trained, your highest qualification, the area you want to work in, your right to work and a line or two about your experience. The tool uses that to explain your registration position, the jobs open to you now and your next steps in order. Nothing you enter is saved, and you do not need to give your name or email to use it.

Registration rules, fees and visa conditions change, so check the HCPC, the BPS and gov.uk before you pay for an application or accept an offer.
